    Reality? You have to pay toll roads to go anywhere and avoid the city congestion. My trip to work would take me 40min to an hour if I didn’t take tolls.. taking tolls cuts the city and it takes me 20min, expensive at over $5 each way. Extremely confusing roads that even google maps will be confused at. No actual natural beauty, just a lovely brown river that you wouldn’t eat a fish from or swim in as you will get attacked by bull sharks and to top that off it floods.. seriously can’t wait to leave 😅

    I enjoy channels on Brisbane but I don't think I have been offered your channel before. Six months after this video was released, I have now seen it. Your channel might just need that lightbulb moment. A Brisbane channel though, however good will never have millions of viewers. All the best, I am digging through your videos now.

    • @BrisbaneChannel

      I had one video semi-blow up, which is where about half the current subscribers have come from. I never really managed to put out one since that one that did nearly as well (it still accounts for at least 40% of daily views three years later, when it's no longer relevant). I'm aware Brisbane is a kinda niche topic as far as YT channels go, but I do feel the channel has more potential than it's currently realising. I'd only need to double current engagement (double very very little is still very little) to make it a sustainable thing. I think closer to the Olympics, it may pick up quite a bit, but that's still a long way off.

      Unfortunately it's quite out of date now, especially now that smart ticketing has been brought in. Also the city hopper is now using a different kind of boat, and there's a new free bus route. I have been planning on doing an updated version of this video, but I'm waiting for the new 50c fare trial to start, and also for the metro to start operating. Otherwise the video I make will need updating in just a few months!

      The quality would be good, but the costs involved could be quite different depending on if you're an Australian citizen or not, and also on your income. To be honest, it's not something I'm particularly familiar with without doing some research.

    I lived in Brisbane in nice eastern inner-city suburbs for a few years. I had my house broken into twice and my car broken into three times. I found Brisbane people to be friendly enough, but weirdly obsessed with the place, in that they orientate everywhere else in Australia in relation to its proximity to Brisbane. I found they tend to speak to you using localities and names of local places with the expectation that you'd know them "because of of course, everyone knows about Brisbane places". The pubs and restaurants were generally quite good. Brisbane people also orientate the place in regards to the Brisbane river, which is pretty horrible and dank. I found the weather to be never particularly good - in that the summers can be often close to 40 degrees with no breeze, and the winters are (at least a lot of the day) quite cold with even colder breezes. If I'd have to rate a capital city of Australia - it would be Sydney as a winner, hands down in all regards. Sadly, quite expensive to live in now.

    I have lived in Brisbane for 40 years. Great city. I am kinda done with it though. I remember better times where you weren’t always stuck in traffic. Traffic is a killer now. We bought a waverunner so we could shootout to Jumpinpin and south straddie. That is awesome. I’ll take it out this weekend. You have the whole beach to yourselves. But without the waverunner all other beaches take twice as long to get to than they did in the 90’s. I am sure it is the same everywhere, the old places that were awesome in youth become overcrowded and for locals we can remember better times. I live inner city Camp Hill. Love the area, is kind of home as is the Redlands, but we bought and renovated a house in NZ for a change of scenery if nothing more. Brisbane is great though.

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel 6 днів тому

      I agree. And the concern of some is that depending on the locations chosen for koala repopulation, the other causes for their decline may mean we continue to lose many that are brought in. At least the team at UQ will be monitoring them, and hopefully they'll also be able to find areas that are less risky for the koalas.

    My 2 cents on this is: Melb and Syd are dominated by corp culture where everyon starts late and then stays back late, has coffee and goes to restaurants in the city, before heading home. Brisbane is the opposite, there is little established white collar up market corp by comparison. Most people going into the city are working class, they eat lunch at shops/cafe then go home. This is not even unique to inner city, even out in the suburbs you see all the cafes close after lunch, but most will be open extremely early, often 4am or 5am.

    You mentioned a suburb in the Brisbane region call Goodna. Goodna is not and has not and will never be a part of Brisbane suburb it is actually Ipswich. The name wooggra it's actually the name of the creek. And the word Goodna meaning dingo Hill.

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel 13 днів тому

      Goodna isn't part of Brisbane City, but part of Ipswich city, correct. However Ipswich City is part of Greater Brisbane (along with Moreton Bay, Redland, Logan and of course Brisbane), so Goodna IS part of Greater Brisbane (and I did specify Greater Brisbane right at the start of the video, and likely later on also). And when we say "Brisbane", most people think of Greater Brisbane and the five LGAs rather than just the Brisbane LGA. Not sure where the idea that Goodna means dingo hill came from? My source for this one was the QLD State Library resource "IYIL fact sheet" from International Year of Indigenous Languages, which says that Goodna means "dung" in the Yuggera language. An article about Goodna on Ipswich Libraries' website confirms the meaning, but also talks of the sheep run called Woogaroo owned by the Grenier family as early as 1841, which referred to a waterhole in the creek, but that it was known as Goodna from 1856 onwards. A quick Google should confirm.
